Sustainability and Climate Change

Having developed a climate change policy that changed perceptions of farmers and their efforts on the land, Josh shares the power of language and networks to change sustainability dialogue and promote climate change action.

Josh has continued to advocate for the inclusion of Indigenous people in climate change conversations, particularly in agriculture.

Agricultural Reconciliation

Truth-telling and engaging with Indigenous peoples is pivotal to the success of Australian agriculture. Indigenous people own over 60% of Australiaโ€™s landmass today, with great potential in incorporating Indigenous knowledges with land ownership for local self-determination.

From bushfoods or native foods to modern agriculture, realising Aboriginal culture as fluid unlocks conversations within the farming section and beyond.

Josh tells the story through connection, coming together to share ways of the past, relationships, and joint aspirations of farming into the future.

Aboriginal engagement and inclusion in agriculture

Despite being the first farmers in the world, Aboriginal knowledge and wisdom of our landscapes is often ignored.

There remain just 5 agricultural graduates each year across universities and an under-representation of Indigenous people in the sector.

Josh believes this is driven by the history since colonisation, cemented through stereotypes, misconceptions and burying of the truth. Together, we can challenge these ideas and increase Indigenous involvement across agribusiness.
